Ski & Snowboard Size Chart: What Length to Rent (Plus Boot and Pole Sizes)
Updated October 2026 by the Charter Sports rental team.
For most adults, the right rental ski reaches between your chin and forehead: chin height for beginners, nose height for intermediates, and about head height for advanced skiers. Snowboards should stand between your chin and collarbone. Use the charts below as a starting point, then let our techs fine-tune the fit at pickup.

Lengths are general guidelines rounded to the nearest 5 cm. Weight, terrain and ski type (carving, all-mountain, powder) all shift the ideal length.
How to adjust the chart for you
- Go longer if you’re heavier than average for your height, ski fast, or spend time off-piste and in powder.
- Go shorter if you’re lighter, newer to skiing, or prefer quick, short turns on groomers.
- Demo skis are designed for advanced skiers and are often sized closer to head height or above. See ski rentals.
Kids’ ski sizes
Children usually ski best on skis between the chest and chin. Very young beginners do well even shorter, around chest height, for easier turning. Junior packages at Charter Sports are for kids 12 and under. See kids’ ski rentals.
Ski boot sizes (Mondopoint)
| US men’s shoe | US women’s shoe | Mondopoint (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 7 | 24 |
| 7 | 8 | 25 |
| 8 | 9 | 26 |
| 9 | 10 | 27 |
| 10 | 11 | 28 |
| 11 | 12 | 29 |

A rental boot should feel snug around the heel and instep, with toes lightly brushing the front when you stand straight and pulling back slightly when you flex forward. Tell your boot tech if you have wide or narrow feet.
Skip the guesswork. Enter your height, weight, ability and shoe size when you book online and we’ll prep your gear before you arrive. Save up to 30% booking 24+ hours ahead.
Ski and snowboard sizing FAQ
What size skis should I rent?
Most beginners ski best on skis that reach between the chin and nose, intermediates between the nose and forehead, and advanced skiers at roughly head height or a little longer. Heavier or more aggressive skiers can go longer, lighter or cautious skiers shorter.
What length snowboard should I rent?
A snowboard that stands between your chin and collarbone fits most riders, which is roughly 85–90% of your height. Weight matters as much as height, and park riders often go shorter.
How do I know my ski boot size?
Rental ski boots use Mondopoint sizing, which is the length of your foot in centimeters. A US men’s 9 is about a 27 and a US women’s 8 is about a 25. Your boot tech measures your foot at pickup.
How long should ski poles be?
Turn the pole upside down and grip it under the basket. Your elbow should bend at about 90 degrees. That’s roughly 68% of your height. Poles come with every Charter Sports ski package.
Do I need to know my size before reserving?
No. Enter your height, weight, age, ability and shoe size when you book online, and the Charter Sports team preps your skis, boots and poles before you arrive and confirms the fit at pickup.
